Genevieve Gerrior's Blog

My friends in music:

I have entered a festive Christmas song “Noel Noel” and I have received a lot of praises and votes for this one and I thank all of you who enjoy my own kind of country sound. It’s a blend of music that I call Maritime; a bit of Celtic, Country, and Cajun all mixed together as my roots are in Maritime. Thank you again for voting for my song and if you have friends, please tell them about the song and have them vote. Right now it is at #17 with well over 1600 plays, and with your vote, it can win and be a wonderful song during the Christmas seasons for the rest of your life, along with warming the hearts of all and your children for years to come. Born in the month of June in Lundy, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of Ardeth and Lester Gerrior. Lester (John) was Hank Snows’ childhood friend and first fiddle player in Hank’s band in the early years of Hank’s career. Lester and Hank met at an early age and went through thick and thin together. They were like family and it was hard on them both when Lester opted to stay in Canada when Hank Snow moved to Nashville. Genevieve came from a musical family and was raised from her early years to be an on stage performer with her little sister, Sandra. Although her father stayed behind in Canada, he eventually moved his entire family to the United States and settled down in Southern California. By that time, Genevieve had proved herself and was hired by Walt Disney Productions and performed weekly at the theme park on Main Street. During the growing years of training to be a Chanteuse, Genevieve sang for many of the greats such as Louie Armstrong, Marty Robbins, Stan Kenton, Louie Jordon, and Bobby Troup. She also did the coffee house scene and appeared at Knotts Berry Farm, the Cliffy Stones Hometown Jamboree and Town Hall Party and performed at a benefit with Johnny Cash. It’s hard to pin her into one certain category because she has worked with so many in all fields of music. Genevieve has three number one international and regional hits and has many fans including the first king of Jordan, King Hussein, and James Michner, Jack Valenti, Al Jolson Jr., and movie director Bud Boettecer. The range of styles she has mastered includes her favorite, Maritime Country, and soft Jazz which is definitely in the style of Billy Holiday. Also, Big Band is another style that she performs as if it was the only kind. She has the finishing touches yet to complete an album produced by Ed Myers and Homer Joy. Jordon Cole, who works with The Association (his father’s 60’s group with top ten hits Never My Love, Wendy, and Cherish) is now working on the final arrangements for “Liquid Ease,” the name of the album that rocker Edgar Winter gave after listening to the demo cuts. Thus, Liquid Ease will soon be available and to give you a sample of what’s to come, listen to When December Is The Girl on Genevieve’s Ourstage.com website. Genevieve has the ability to sing a great Country or Big Band song with no hint of the other being present in her voice. As mentioned above, she has had three international hit records and they were: Old Days and Old Ways (an award winning song for her in the KFC Songwriting Contest); Noel Noel; and Happy Hour. Recorded in Nashville, Genevieve was backed by members of the Ricky Scaggs’ Band, Crystal Gail, Don Williams, and Hank Thompson Jr. While recording in Nashville, Genevieve became close friends with Al Jolson Jr. and his wife, Victoria. Genevieve had the honor of naming their only daughter Kate. In the mid 1980’s, Genevieve moved to Spokane and within a few years started the Spokane Songwriting Association which, at one time, had well over 1100 members. Genevieve also taught various classes and wrote a book on the business of music: How to Prepare, Produce, and Present a Song. Also, she was invited to Washington D.C. to testify on behalf of all songwriters and her testimony helped to turn the vote regarding recording artists rights to get paid for broadcast music. She met House Speaker Tom Foley and stated to him: “If you vote against the songwriters, your 1100 plus constituents back in Spokane will vote you out of office in the next election.” Needless to say the vote passed in favor of the songwriters. She has also been instrumental in the forging and passing of other vital bills that have changed the business of music to favor the artists and writers. Genevieve also penned a novel to become an established writer. Her love story “Forbidden Angel” takes you to Nova Scotia and she is working on the sequel to her love story. She used the pen name: Carol Larson, and it can be ordered by contacting Genevieve at firstbrigade@earthlink.net. Genevieve has been labled a “SINGER’S SINGER” who can sing Ave Maria in a rich soprano voice with as much confidence and ease as a deep smokey blues number. And she has been known to drop the bottom out of a beer mug while hitting a high note. This happened in Nashville during an impromptu performance for a group of friends. She thought someone had played a joke on her but that was not the case as it was the real thing and quite impressive. All of Genevieve’s songs have been well received and she hopes you will enjoy them as much as all her fans and friends have. And all of us, along with Genevieve, hope you will want to become her next fan. Her gospel songs are uplifting and will help you in your quest to be closer to Christ. Give them a listen and let us know how they make you feel.
