About Funkelgreen

Portrait of Funkelgreen
Science, math and music all have the same backbone. They all tell us who we are.
Jim Hughes fell in love with music when his parents bought him a one octave toy synthesizer for Christmas when he was four years old. He started taking piano lessons at the age of ten and joined the middle school band playing the clarinet. He then switched to the bass clarinet in the eight grade. He was invited to and joined the Southeastern United States Honor Band also in the eight grade on the Bass Clarinet. Once he entered high school, he joined the marching band drumline, percussion ensemble, jazz band (drumset), symphonic band, and concert band. While in the marching band he played the bass drum, snare drum, tenors, and all pit instruments. In 1998, between his junior and senior year, he marched on the drumline with the Spirit of Atlanta drum and bugle corps who placed 14th at the DCI World Championships. He played drumset for the jazz band and during his sophomore year, attended the Clayton State Jazz Clinic. After high school he moved to Columbus Georgia to attend Columbus State University. He majored in Percussion Performance with a focus on drumset. He performed with the Columbus St. Orchestra and the theatre dept. Though he has no formal training, Jim has also played the guitar for twelve years. He now has a home studio where he uses many types of instruments and many different genres to write completely original works. Jim Hughes has done scores for many independent short films. He writes in all genres and is virtually a jack of all trades when it comes to any type if sound project. Jim uses Cubase Studio 4, Korg Triton Studio, Korg Legacy Series, KRK Rokit monitors, Fender guitars, Alesis multi-mix II 18, and various other percussion and gadgets.

The new internet is in the making!!

There is a new internet in the making called the Grid. When connected, all users will have access to a virtual supercomputer. The more users connected to the grid, the more powerful and faster it becomes. What do you think this will mean for music? It’s pretty scary if you ask me. Check out this article found on wikipedia-

Grids versus conventional supercomputers

“Distributed” or “grid” computing in general is a special type of parallel computing which relies on complete computers (with onboard CPU, storage, power supply, network interface, etc.) connected to a network (private, public or the Internet) by a conventional network interface, such as Ethernet. This is in contrast to the traditional notion of a supercomputer,...

Thanks for the request & kind words. "Steamroller" is a great tune. I was disappointed to see it slide to the twenties behind some really uninteresting beats. Oh, how the voting goes. Peace man.

I am impressed with the sensitivity and at the same time the masculinity which you bring to the core of your music; moving a portion of our soul to the light. Thanks for your music...Keep it going.

Boss Historical is really cool instrumental track. I love the rhythm of it. It's a little different from what we normally listen to but still this track deserves some props!
