BIO Most artist boast about their longevity and their history. Most will tell you that they have been writing since they learned how to cross a “t”, but some people’s hip hop story starts a little later than most. LAF, born as Lafayette Deon Fletcher, is one of them, yet his lyrical maturity is recognized through the content of his thoughts, not the age-old verses in his notebook. Originally a California native, LAF played football since the age of six, leading teams and breaking state records. After graduating from Morningside High School in Inglewood, California, he was recruited to the UNLV Runnin Rebels on a full ride football scholarship and a dream of making it to the NFL. But just as life proves, sometimes the dreams we invest in, the dreams we hope to manifest into reality, are only obstacles that prepare us for something even better. So for LAF, Division I football was over. He walked away from UNLV with a degree in Sociology and walked into an unfamiliar reality. As an escape from the monotony of a 9am to 5pm, LAF started writing and recording music with a small group of friends. Positive local feedback influenced him to take music seriously. Since then LAF has developed his own distinctive voice in West Coast hip hop. His lyricism reflects his own reality and drive behind the words he cuffs on the beat. The heads of hip hop can expect to hear a lot more from this up and coming, content conscious, West Coast lyricist.
