FireMonkey has been around in one form or another since 1992. First as a singer with a guitar and a programmed keyboard performing in bookstores, a recording project on the internet and finally today as a live art pop act charged with pulsing, danceable power. FireMonkey's all original repertoire picks sounds and impressions form the psychedelic 60s and the romantic, Sheffield 80s. The lyrics tend toward optimism, spirituality and the surreal. Hearing the band one might be reminded of Talk Talk, Bowie, Japan, Duran Duran, A Flock of Seagulls. Here are some Critical quotes..."With a page from Peter Gabriel and a penchant for industrial house beats, FireMonkey seems to be Pet Shop Boys meets Genesis meets Talk Talk meets Ultravox at a basement rave in Holland and the result is a hypnotic blend of poetry. Firemonkey is professionally produced, performed, and artistically compelling." "Poppy prog informed by post-Gabriel Genesis, as evidenced by the mostly guitarless, keyboard driven excursions into melodic pop territory. The drum machine beats deliver danceable grooves, giving the lofty chord progressions a head bobbing friendliness. Well-crafted and arranged." "Dark and quirky Euro Pop headphone earcandy with thought provoking lyrics and grand melodies." "The latest music by FireMonkey is reminiscent of the dreamier moments of forces like... Pet Shop Boys, McCartney, Gang of Four (The 'HARD' album), U2, Talking Heads, Bowie, Ultravox, The Police, Talk Talk, XTC, Flock of Seagulls, INXS. 'HP7X' and 'Take A Picture' seem to be the immediate favorites. FireMonkey is always good for sending us on a trip to somewhere new yet familiar." The FireMonkey lineup is... Lyle Holdahl- lead vocal, secondary guitar and keyboard, woodwinds Mike Hughes- drums Dave Salwitz- bass, Sony MiniDisc- synths and bass
