Fell first came to the world as a series of four-track tapes recorded by Josh Wambeke, half of the Denver space rock outfit Phineas Gage. The experimental demos, heavy on electronics and drum machines, marked the beginning of Wambeke's drift away from the psychedelic pop of Phineas Gage. In early 2001 Wambeke set out to create a full length LP, written and recorded with Michael Dewey on bass and guitar and Josh Cedillo on drums. After almost 2 years of sessions, the first album was completed in 2003, and in early 2006 it was eventually released by Australia's Camera Obscura Records. With its swirling textures and dismal mood, the album was well liked and met modest critical acclaim, but fell short of Wambeke's aspirations. In late 2006, bassist Bryan Romero joined the band, and Fell played a handful of successful live shows. After parting ways with their drummer, Wambeke and Romero set out to finish an album Wambeke had been quietly working on since late 2004. During this period Fell began playing various shows locally with different drummers, including Wambeke's comrade in Phineas Gage, the ever prolific Patrick Porter. Eventually, after months of cycling through band members, Fell was reunited with Michael Dewey, this time with cello in his repertoire, as well as being joined by local drummer E. J. Ulery, and longtime friend and collaborator Bryan Lee on guitar and keys. In late 2007 Fell completed the recordings for their follow up album, Incoherent Lullabies. The album was originally scheduled for a late 2008 release on Camera Obscura, but the unfortunate illness of label founder Tony Dale has delayed the album for the foreseeable future. In the mean time, Wambeke and Romero have recorded a follow-up record titled A Farewell To Echoes, which the band has decided to release independently. While not entirely abandoning the swirling guitars and walls of post-rock noise hinted at in Incoherent Lullabies and fully present in their live shows, Wambeke wanted with A Farewell to Echoes to return to the quiet introspection of Fell's first album, bringing a bit of maturity to the space rock sound that informed his musical adolescence.
