Eric Kamen was born, raised and has lived his entire life in New York City.Eric's involvement with music started in his young teens, learning to play popular music by sitting at the family piano and playing along with the radio and the LPs of the day. Little-by-little, Eric peeled back the mystery of chords, chord progressions, harmonies and beats ... by listening to the pop groups of the era ... the Beatles, Stones, the Doors, James Taylor, on and on.By 14 or 15 years old, Eric was already a highly accomplished pop musician ... on piano, guitar and bass, and started earning money by playing with local bands ... and doing recording session work, all throughout his High School and College years. After graduating from College, Eric travelled extensively throughout Europe and the Mediterranean ... and got his first exposure to non-American music ... Flamenco from Spain, the beautiful and enchanting melodies and percussion of North Africa, Rembetika from Greece and Turkey. The eureka that these young musicians from other parts of the world played with every bit as much soul as his American idols ... like Eric Clapton or Jimi Hendrix, left a deep and lasting impression on Eric ... leaving Eric with an unusually eclectic and universal interest in all forms of music ... including the modern developments of music in his own indigenous American culture ... such as modern R&B and Hip Hop.Returning from Europe, Eric once again got re-engaged in the band scene, playing with rock and pop groups throughout most of his 20s ... after which time, Eric turned his attention to producing young urban R&B and Hip Hop artists ... singers and rappers. It was during this period that Eric really turned his attention to composing, arranging and the hi-tech skills required to run a modern digital recording studio.Craving to push beyond the limits of what commercial pop music allows, Eric occasionally toyed with free-styling against the tracks which he had composed for the artists he was working with ... and little-by-little, he recognized that he was in the process of developing a new style of music ... which he refers to as World Fusion. He built up a collection of instrumental pieces which reflected the diverse multi-national influences to which he had been exposed over the course of his life ... along with, of course, the R&B and Hip Hop under-tow with which he had become so familiar. This experimentation culminated in the release of Eric's first CD as a solo artist, entitled Native Unit, which went on to win the Best Instrumental CD of the Year from MusesMuse.com, many OTT reviews from many music websites ... and great popularity with the Myspace crowd ... presently being the number one rated Flamenco artist on Myspace ... along with top-notch rankings in Roots Music as well as Latin.Eric released his second World Fusion CD ... Eric 2.0 ... in March 2007 ... pushing even further the experiment in World Fusion music ... and is presently working on his third CD, to be released latter this year. While not intended to be a political statement, one can't help but notice how extraordinarily well the Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, Asian and pure American Pop R&B strains of music blend so well together. In a world so shattered by conflict, Eric's music is a message about the unity of mankind and the universal language of music.
