Eric Jerome Brodberg shoots straight from the heart when it comes to reaching others through his music. Hailing from the Mid-Michigan area, Eric grew up in a musically inclined family. From cousins to uncles and many family friends, he was deeply influenced as a young man and to this day keeps those influences strong in his heart. "One of my earliest memories was of my cousin David, coming home from army basic training and strumming on his guitar," says Eric "My curiosity always got the best of me and at the age of nine, I just had to learn how to play too. Dave showed me one chord and from there I guess I just took off." High school played a huge part in his growing musically also. Eric wrote his first song at the age of fifteen. He knew exactly what he wanted to do, but was never sure why.
Fast forward a few years and you would find Eric chasing the dream and discovering why he was called to do music. "After years of playing in the bars, I found myself seeking the music for the wrong reasons," says Eric "It was never drugs or alcohol, but fame, fortune and pride that always held me down." After a bad car accident in 2003 and his dad's health issues in 2004, Eric turned to the right source and gave his life to Jesus Christ. "I heard God tell me that if I stop doing the music for myself and seeking the pleasures of the world, that He will give me bigger and better things with music. So I did just that."
Since taking that step of faith, God has blessed him with a fresh new outlook on life and the purpose he was called to do music so many years ago. Currently Eric leads worship every other Sunday morning for a local church in southern Michigan and also sings lead for a band called Soldiers of the Cross. "God has blessed me and introduced me to some very influential people He put in my life to help keep me focused on the call...and that's the call of The Great Commision." explains Eric "We are all called for a purpose..To serve the Lord our God and to spread the word of the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. If you ask me if it was worth giving up the pleasures of the world for this...I'd tell you YES!, most definately." "Whatever plans God has for me in this crazy world concerning my music, I pray it always glorifies Him."
For Eric, 2008 has been good to him as far as writing and pursuing his dreams. He enjoys creating and co-writing with others, and continues to do so as long as God allows him to.
