About Driftwood Fire

Portrait of Driftwood Fire

his melodic indie folk rock trio was born when songwriters Charlotte Formichella and Lynn Scharf met at a rural Virginia gas station in 2004. Immediate friends, they began writing and performing together, producing a Do It Yourself recording project just six months later. The core band has since expanded to include esteemed folk-rock drummer & percussionist Jennifer “JJ” Jones (Ellis, Edie Carey, Julie Loyd). Driftwood Fire also performs with one of several orchestral bass players, including Jen Quan (Sir Elton John, Michael Feinstein). From their first home recording project, their song Georgia Avenue was licensed for use on QuickStar’s nationally distributed ‘Chill Out: Acoustic Compilation.’ Additionally, the song Appalachian Hills won First Place in the 2007 International Narrative Song Competition and is also being considered for use on PBS’s Road Trip Nation. Driftwood Fire is a 2007 Denver Blue Note singer/songwriter finalist, a December 2007 Song of the Year Suggested Artist (runner-up) and will be included on the ‘Best of Live at Lunch" compilation CD from KRFC 88.9fm, a local radio station in Fort Collins, Colorado, Driftwood Fire’s home town.
