Dre Black is a singer, songwriter, arranger, and fashion designer/entrepreneur. Dre Black is a singer, songwriter, arranger, and fashion designer/entrepreneur. Dre was born and raised in Washington, DC where he studied music and the arts at Duke Ellington School of Performing Arts. He's been singing since the age of four and started writing songs by the age of nine. He graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology with an AAS in Fashion Management and a BA in Communications from Marymount University. Back in 2000, he recorded several songs in Atlanta with ASCAP award-winning songwriter, Joe Rich, but at the time Dre was trying to finish up college and really couldn't make the move to Atlanta. He would go on to appear on "American Idol: Season 4," in which he made it to the 3rd round at the DC auditions.
With his soulful rage and impressive lyrical abilities, it is clear to see why Dre is the go to man for hooks, verses, and those signature adlibs that he is known to do. Some of his songs have been played on WPGC 955, WKYS 93.9 in Washington, DC and XM Satellite Radio. He was heard on the Redskins song, "Holding Me Back," with former WPGC personality Chris Paul. He also appeared in the skateboarding DVD, "Get Familiar" with fellow DC skateboarder/rapper, Darren Harper. His band EGOcentric features at Haydee's Lounge every 3rd Saturday of the month in Washington, DC.
Dre has performed all over including "Bar Nun" in DC, the "Atrium" in Atlanta, and the "Nuyorican Poets Cafe" in New York. He has also been busy crafting his long-awaited clothing line "Everything Gold : EGO," which will feature custom made clothing and accessories. EVERYTHING GOLD is a fashion consulting company that partners with other designers, artists, and fashion movers. The EVERYTHING GOLD BRAND will not only be a platform for Dre's music, but also other business ventures including production and real estate. His goal is to contribute to an ever growing business of entertainment with substance, integrity, and purpose. He is definitely on the rise to becoming one of the renaissance men of the hip-hop movement, because he has his hands in everything.
He is currently in the studio working on new music and experimenting with different genres and styles of music. "I don't want to be classified as one type of artist, or one particular genre, I wanna be the best at what I do whether it's a jazz or country song. It will still have Dre Black, stamped all over it!!" His sound is constantly evolving and he has not even scored a major deal yet, however his determination for success and dedication for what he loves will prove best in the end. The idea to name his band EGOcentric was a marketing ploy to cross promote not only Dre Black's music but to promote the EVERYTHING GOLD fashion label, consulting firm and production company all in one.
