Born Donald Moore Jr. on October 19, 1988 in Cincinnati, Ohio, DJ fell in love with music at an early age and began playing the piano and organ at 6 years old. His first performance was at the age of 7, where he played the organ in concert at the Friendship Baptist Church. Although he names Eminem, TI, Bootsy Colins, James Brown, Missy Elliot and Ludacris as his predominant musical influences, DJ’s earliest inspiration was his cousin Akil Kontar. It was Kontar who first introduced DJ to the imaginative and ever-changing world of hip-hop music production. Traveling to and from Kontar’s studio in Dayton, DJ soon taught himself how to write bars, create beats and produce his own music. At the age of 14 DJ was introduced to bass legend and funk icon Bootsy Collins through a youth music program called R.O.O.T.S. (Realizing Our Own Talents and Skills), created by Collins himself. Ever since meeting, Bootsy and DJ have worked together on a variety of musical projects and have formed a lasting relationship which has enabled DJ to work alongside other artists such as Buckhead, Freakbass, Snoop Dogg and DJ Hi-Tek. DJ has also worked on production projects for Pepsi, Playstation, and the Cincinnati Bengals. Fresh off an international tour, DJ is now focusing on a new album entitled “JukeBox” – a collaborative project with fellow Cincinnati native and R&B vocalist, Mic Stoli. The eclectic album is set to be released in 2009. DJ has also recently put his entrepreneurial skills to work, launching his own production company – TAHP NOTCH Productions. According to DJ, launching his own music production company was the most effective way to deliver his creative vision. TAHP NOTCH provides artists a full range of services from track production, writing, arranging, mixing and mastering.
