MY BIOI was born in NYC. We moved to Hazlet NJ when I was 3. My father, Mace Barrett was a famous Broadway singer. I spent much of my youth backstage at his Broadway shows in NYC while my dad was performing (way cool!) When I was 8 years old, we moved to Montclair NJ. I consider this, the place of my childhood. In high school I started to play guitar and it became an obsession with me. I would practice 10 or more hours a day, or until my fingers would bleed! I was greatly influenced by Jimi Hendrix, ( what else is new…) Carlos Santana, John McLaughlin and James Taylor. They were great guitar players! I moved back to NYC after high school to pursue a musical career. I got a job at the Bottom Line nightclub in Greenwich Village as a cook. This was a dream job come true! There I was able to see many performers up close: Bruce Springsteen, The Temptations, The Ramones, Tom Petty, Santana, Hall & Oats, Charles Mingas, Billy Cobham... just about everyone who’d play in the city. I would sing and play guitar at many of the Greenwich Village nightclubs: Folk City, The Other End, CBGB’s, Max’s Kansas City, etc. I’d hang out and play in Washington Square park. I took guitar lessons from the Famous jazz guitarist Pat Martine. I even got a few pointers from Larry Coryell and John McLaughlin back stage at the Bottom Line. I also took classes at The Guitar Study Center in Manhatten with Ed Simon (Pauls bother… ). I moved to Los Angeles, Califonia and performed with numerous bands, playing the Sunset strip in Hollywood: The Troubadour, The Whiskey, The Roxy, Gazzaris, The Country Club. I finally formed the band ‘Thundercatz’. This was a fusion of Hard Rock and theatrical Heavy Metal. We played the L.A. Club scene and developed quite a good following with all our shows always sold out. We toured for a while with the famous G.L.O.W. wrestlers ( Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling ) from the hit television show. Electric chairs, swords, chainsaws, scantily clad wrestlers! Talk about your “wild and weird” rock performances! I am finished my debut CD with music producer Robert Roth. Robert’s worked with UB40, The Eurhythmics, Scorpions, etc. I’ve also released a patriotic CD single called ‘One Nation’ in honor of our soldiers abroad, who have, and will greatly sacrifice to ensure our freedom, and secure our future. It’s proceeds are being donated to ‘The Fisher House’ charity organization, which helps our wounded soldiers and their families in their time of need. I hope you enjoy the music.
