It is known in the West as “folky-funk rock”. Wrap folk, funk, blues and good ol’ rock n' roll around tight harmonies that erupt from four men and one soulful woman and what you get is Phoenix-based band Delcoa. Composed of five diverse musicians, Delcoa comes together with honest and memorable songwriting, dynamic stage presence and a grooved-up backbone. Delcoa is the hottest band in the nation’s hottest city. Delcoa was built in 2005 on the foundations of lead singer Jay Allan’s catchy guitar playing and heartfelt songwriting with Ashley E. Norton’s dynamic and soul filled voice. “Jay and Ash” joined forces with friends and Phoenix music scene all-stars, bassist Ethan Newman and drummer Tony King. The result was their debut album, "Roots, Bridges and Branches." Jay Poole, lead guitarist extraordinaire and recording engineer became the final piece of the puzzle. In early 2009, “Simply Listen” is born. This new storybook of songs takes you through a wide-range of eclectic vocals, rhythm and space; taking chances while hooking audiences in with a collection of distinctive hits. . Delcoa has established their music at the McDowell Mountain Music Festival (w/Michael Franti & Spearhead, Hot Tuna, Matisyahu, The Flaming Lips), The Telluride Bluegrass Festival (band competition and after-party) and on tour in Colorado, Texas, Illinois, North Dakota, Oklahoma and California…. “Delcoa is comprised of five all-star musicians whose talents shine as one cohesive unit. The opening track, “Pieces,” is a perfect example of how you can easily hear each individual's talent, but they do it in a way that melds together in perfect harmony and melody. This album is fused with tones of jazz, folk, funk and rock like on the song “False Gravity,” which exemplifies their diversity as they grind it out, allowing Jay to sing from his gut. The Nora Jones-esque “Conversations with the Moon” rolls as smooth as the wine from your glass to your tongue and guest musician Stefan Platamone adds a beautiful trumpet to highlight this song. This is the kind of album that you find yourself discovering new pleasures every time you listen. Lose yourself in their musical journey. (4 out of 5 stars)” – Joe Koch, Hoopla Magazine “Delcoa is one of my favorite local acts. They blend folk, funk, and pop to create unique tracks that get your head bobbing and your chi movin.” – Brent Diggins, AZ Weekly “The Phoenix-based group Delcoa combines the lyrical musings of five diversely trained musicians. Described as a “folky-funk rock” band, Delcoa blends smoothness and energy and will have you bobbing your head in no time.” – David Francey, Yes!
