Dead by Request is an alias for Pedro G. Marques. Pedro was born in Lourenço Marques, Mozambique, in 1974 and came to Portugal soon after his birth. He started to demonstrate a deep interest in music since his early youth and began tooking piano lessons when he was 8 years old. Later, he joined the Vila Real Music Academy and, afterwards, the Oporto Jazz School. In his teens, Pedro was a huge Heavy Metal fan but soon his horizons became wider, embracing almost all genres: Post-Punk to Easy Listening; Electronica to Jazz; Classical to Industrial. The early nineties saw the birth of Huska (a.k.a. HüskaBurraMamô), a Goth/Punk/Hardcore band from Vila Real, with G. Marques taking the role of the lead singer. The group disbanded around 1995. The new millennium saw Pedro G. Marques collaborating on Jorge Coelho’s soundtrack for the portuguese movie “O Meu Sósia e Eu” by Tiago Guedes. In 2003, after getting a new synthesizer, the idea of making a solo musical project took form in his mind and Dead by Request was born. Initially, DBR’s music was deeply influenced by well-known ambient/experimental icons such as Coil, Legendary Pink Dots or Klaus Schulze but, after a while, it’s sound began to gain a more synthpop/electro-rock feeling, in the vein of bands like Clan of Xymox, Lou Champagne System, The Danse Society or Depeche Mode. Dead by Request’s first recording – “The Zero Hour” – was made in 2006 and it was entirely recorded and produced in a home studio.
