Setra, whose name means “daughter of the sun” grew up all over the world. At first listen, one might make comparisons with Bjork, Tracy Chapman or Sade but upon further listen, it’s clear that this artist stands alone in her own right, offering a unique blend of eclectic pop/folk elements combined with intelligent and insightful lyrics to create a sound all her own.
Not one to wait on others to get the job done, Setra worked with Tony Wilson (tech for The Rolling Stones on their Bigger Bang world tour) to put together her own home recording facility. She then wrote and produced her first collection of songs about life, aptly entitled “Songs About It.” After completing her debut CD, Setra hit the road, taking her unique songs to India, France and the UK, before returning to the USA and settling in Los Angeles, where she was quickly bitten by the movie industry bug and is now finishing the production of a short film which she co-wrote and is also producing the music for.
Not at all shy in front of the camera, Setra can be seen on episode 7 of the hit tv show, LA Ink, getting her sun tattoo while discussing her commitment to music and sharing her music and what inspires her.
Award winning producer, Michael King, utilized Setra’s writing and production talents for the groundbreaking documentary Rapping With Shakespeare, which follows the lives of five high school students in Los Angeles, California’s turbulent Crenshaw district.
One listen to Setra’s moving lyrical style and sultry vocals and it’s clear why she’s been sought after by Sony for both her songwriting skills as well as her artistry and why Girlistic Magazine describes Setra’s songs as “must have music.”
And, because there’s time enough to sleep when you’re dead, in addition to everything else on her plate, this daughter of the sun is currently recording her followup CD, tentatively entitled, “Happy Broken Hearted Love Songs.” “The first CD was just practice,” she says. “With this second collection of songs, I’ve finally found my cohesive voice and I’m really excited about this CD!”
And this is only the beginning for the daughter of the sun, who’s once again planning to take her show on the road, continuing to spread her unique brand of sunshine around the world, one song at a time!
