About DanielGray

Portrait of DanielGray
Mixing the classic folk and pop sounds of the 60's with the energy of modern indie-rock, Daniel has created a unique style that is somewhere between acoustic folk, jangly guitar rock and piano-driven pop. Born and raised in Toronto, Daniel was born into a very musical family. After experimenting with several instruments throughout childhood he finally settled on the guitar at 14. He still plays keyboards, bass, and drums on his recordings however, establishing a true D.I.Y. ethic. Having only really starting writing songs since the spring of 2007 the young singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist has quickly developed a very poetic writing style sung over strong melodies, catchy guitar lines, and unique arrangements including - not only the usual guitars, bass, piano and drums - but also organs, strings, rhodes, percussion and even backwards violin! Daniel is currently recording the songs that will make up his debut album tentatively titled "A Future's Past" which should be released within the next year.

Hi again Daniel..thanks for your message on my page..re Nick Drakes tunings (of which i use a lot) this site is invaluable
    http://www.algonet.se/~iguana/DRAKE/NDabc.html

Truth be told I played in a hard rock band for years in UK when dance music was all the fashion..one night i logged on to the net to listen to some of his stuff which i loved determined to work out how the F he played it as I'd tried and tinkered..the alternate tunings not only opened up the guitar to me again but a whole new way of thinking about my instrument and how to approach it..A lot of my material is now written in alternate tunings and I only occasionally write in standard..

    hope this is some help..

    keep in touch

Hi Daniel, just wanted to say how much I have enjoyed what I've heard of you so far and will listen to more of your material. Was just wondering if you'd ever heard of English folk genius Nick Drake (1948-1974) as I think you'd love his stuff. Only recently getting the credit his music deserves over 30 years after his death. Check him out if you ain't heard him and apologies if you have.

    Cheers from Scotland
