PLAYS SOLO OR WITH BAND* “I was saying earlier Dan, that I think that you will be one of those people that in like 10, 20 years, we’ll be like “we had that kid on our show”.” --Connie, "Connie and Fish, Z104 Madison" "...A local pop-rock trio that evokes the sophisticated side of Ben Folds Five or Coldplay." --The Second Supper, La Crosse "Pianist and songwriter Dan Collins looks forward to a lifetime in music. A Waunakee native, and at nineteen already a veteran performer..." --Matthew Jordan, Examiner.com "Dan Collins' fingers fly across a piano keyboard. It's a talent that he's been honing for years." --Erin Koskovich, NBC 15-Madison "Dan Collins...and releasing an album [Dormitory] of pinnacle greatness that should be enjoyed by the masses." --Chris Rodey, Rodey's Record Reviews DCP has been in the industry since June, 2006. His/their (depending on the situation) musicianship has inspired an original sound. A mixture of soaring melodies atop big beat piano and bass riffs appeals to listeners of all demographics and backgrounds. Sounds similar to "Ben Folds", "Jack’s Mannequin", and "Coldplay" can be heard from this guitar-less band. To clarify some misconceptions, "Dan Collins and a Piano" is more than just Dan Collins playing a piano. As contradictory as that may sound, that simple duo of vocals and pianos was only the beginning of the piano-rock band, "Dan Collins and a Piano", marketed under the name of his solo project. Currently, Dan is playing with phenomenal musicians and UW- La Crosse students, Mark Swakow and Bryan Zannotti. In 2007, Dan released his first collection of songs in the demo “This One’s For You.” Done on a limited budget and recorded live, these four works showcase some of the principal ideas in his music. In 2008, Collins joined forces with brilliant musicians, Luke Thering and Chris Gatz to form the piano-rock trio that hit hundreds of ears. In June of 2008, the DCP band released a live album, fittingly titled "LIVE 2008". The album, recorded at Blackhawk Church in Madison, consists of eight catchy tunes with what Dan calls a "raw-thenic" experience. After touring the city and making a name for themselves, the band parted ways due to educational callings. In 2009, upon entering college at The University of Wisconsin- La Crosse, Dan’s opportunities expanded and so did his musical product. After a year of dorm-living and collegiate experiences, Collins released a 13-track LP titled “Dormitory”. While in his dorm room, rigged with a new setup and all by his lonesome, Dan developed 13 tracks- over an hour of music- and released it the summer of 2009. From up-tempo tracks like “Take On The World” and “Dormitory”, to slow, personally laden tracks like “The Fourth Of July” and “Lullaby For The Patients and The Patience”, Collins and his piano have seemingly taken another large step in music. http://www.facebook.com/dancollinsandapiano http://www.myspace.com/dancollinsandapiano http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/dormitory/id330290398
