Quit
Courtney Fairchild’s voice carries tales of everyday people caught in an age of uncertainty.

Courtney’s latest release, Quit, was written on the run - between Hawaii and Manhattan, Dallas and LA, between heartbreak and old friends. The beautiful new album takes the resolutely personal writing of her previous records and aims at a more universal target – the vagaries of relationships, the particulars of place, the blur of growing older and growing wiser.

But amidst the moments of self-reflection familiar to the singer/songwriter, Courtney always allows room for a new strain of irony and sarcasm, and Quit is at once narrative and confessional; a combination of complex pop songs and personal revelations. A turbulent set of romantic and life experiences inform the album, a process of breaking down and moving on familiar to all but specific to each person. Quit will make you reflect, make you think, make you laugh out loud - sometimes all in the same moment.

Quit is also the latest gem from John Would (former Warren Zevon guitarist) to come out of Stanley Recording Studios in Santa Monica/Venice, California, and the second LP on which John and Courtney worked together. Courtney has three records behind her - Simple and Distorted, Long Way and Right Here – “Nobody Home,” a stellar contribution to the acclaimed Pink Floyd tribute album A Fair Forgery of Pink Floyd (2003, Stanley Recordings), spins at AAA and college radio and placement on national television programs (The WB’s High School Reunion and MTV’s Road Rules X-Treme). Courtney has also received raves from the Dallas Morning News and New York Times for her live performances, which are by turns acoustic and electric, intimate and explosively energetic.

Steeled by a transcontinental move and matured by changes small and large, Courtney is getting to her great work – performing and writing songs that reach into you, singing in the sweet voice of an ageless torch singer. There’s more to come.
