Coterie of Stern  Founded by Colin Erdle and Mark Warren in the summer of 2009, Coterie of Stern has been a growing force in Buffalo’s eclectic music scene. Borrowing stylistic attributes from various genres of music, the band has turned many heads with their unique amalgamation of sounds. The band started as an acoustic duo, gaining fans with a strong emphasis on harmony and guitar. In 2010 the founding members, desiring a different sound, asked their long-time friends Dan Marin and Brian Hohl to join the group, completing the lineup that exists today. All the members of the band are veterans of the local music scene, playing in such bands as; Menagerie, Of Crime and Passion and Double Live Gonzo.  In “Runaway,” instrumentation, dynamics, and impassioned singing are used to provide differentiation throughout the duration of its simple structure. The lyrics are highly relatable and Colin’s performance on the track invites the listener to empathize with his words. “In The Red” is a song that utilizes mixed meter. Thick harmonies are laced throughout the song, demonstrating the band’s vocal prowess. “Since Yesterday” starts the EP off with a bang. It’s an energetic tune, channeling the band’s pop/rock side. The last song on the EP “The Man I Haven’t Been” is a retrospective take on a  past relationship. Colin’s use of extreme vocal range is employed here. With the EP drawing ever closer to the end of post-production, the band is eager to get it out to as many ears as possible. Coterie of Stern has previously released a full-length, self-titled CD in the Spring of 2011.  Coterie of Stern has performed in many local contests, winning prizes in the “Rage on the Stage” competition and competing in the previous two “Hard Rock Rising” competitions in Niagara Falls. They also were given the opportunity to open for Queensryche in the summer of 2011 at the Lockport Canal Series. The next goal for the band is to continue to get out to the clubs in support of their upcoming release and build upon last year’s success in the local music scene. In 2012, Coterie of Stern is looking to grow both regionally and nationally. There is a strong focus on multimedia. Music videos are in the post and pre-production stages for their new songs.  The band feels like they have some truly great material and have great aspirations for the near future.
