About City City

Portrait of City City

Party-Blast-Rock

Be it the random chance of Damocles’ sword, the divine destiny of Zues’ lightning bolt, OR the annoying analogies of Greek mythology… two Nebraska natives (who had never met) and one upstate New Yorker all found themselves in Los Angeles chasing a common dream of creating and performing music that would melt faces.

Dan McCollister (vocals/wild front man)

Brandon Minichelli (guitar/keyboards)

Jeff Kirchner (guitar/keyboards/engineer/programmer)

together spent months locked in Kirchner’s studio creating, writing, and refining their sound.

Perhaps City City’s greatest strength is their writing process. The band writes and records everything collaboratively in front of their protools rig, samplers, composition software, and enormous wall of synthesizers. Their process likens itself more closely to classical composition than the typical garage band method of “jamming it out”. Kirchner received his Master’s Degree from UCLA in music composition and theory in June of 2008, while Minichelli graduated with a fine arts degree and is currently responsible for the creative design of all City City endeavors, including album art for their most recent record.

By the time City City completed their E.P. “Lines” in 2008, their sound had grown to full fruition: Electro-pop music colored by progressive time signatures and eccentric orchestrations. With writing complete, City City focused on refining an energetic live show. A mutual friend at Warner Bros. Records suggested the band recruit Mike Schneider, formerly of the Militia Group band Controlling The Famous, to play drums. Along with McCollister’s party-inspired onstage antics, Schneider’s precise drumming, Minichelli’s unique guitar colorations, and Kirchner’s classical music training, City City had the stage moxie they were looking for. The band currently lives together under one roof focusing their time on perfecting their live set and continually writing/recording in their home studio.
