Chris Beirne has been performing in the Portland area for the past 5 years in various types of music groups including his main group "Balance". Chris Beirne has been performing in the Portland area for the past 5 years in various types of music groups including his main group "Balance". His original styles include Blues, Rock, Blue Grass, and Country using his talents on steel and slide guitar, Dobro, harmonica, and vocals. He has also chosen a unique array of cover material to compliment the shows.Chris started playing guitar at 15 years old as a student at Crestwood Middle School in Mt. Greenwood, Illinois for 3 or 4 years. His next teacher was Glen Gerini in 1996. Then he learned under Ken Champion- taking a few dobro lessons, which were hard to find in Chicago. Chris studied under Larry Berm who taught him a new ring finger under blocking style for pedal steel. While living in Portland, Oregon, he also had one half day .and one full week with Sally Van Meter at Bluegrass at the Feack in Newport, Oregon. After numerous live gigs he had his first live radio interview on an Elvis show with Grace Elliot, who was his sister's friend, in Juneau, Alaska. A CD soon followed with studio great, Mai Lott on drums. A limited Success Burnside Cadillac sold about 300 copies. Now with a rich improvisational singing voice, some sideman experience and another 7 radio show's, Chris is confident in many styles. Chris currently plays a Yamaha Acoustic six string with gus strings, a Rare Earth pickup, an Ibanez Electric, a Doe 11.0, a Style 0 Metal 130dy and an eight string double neck that he made himself with the help of John Allison's Austin Guitar Shop.
