beating the boxx!
I live in Brooklyn NY amongst a sea of talented artists all striving for not only artistic perfection but a life of where they can do what they love to do and maybe even eat, keep a roof over their head, and perhaps splurge on a drink or two at the bar! I grew up all over the USA from Mississippi to Chicago to North Carolina to Wisconsin to Arizona. But my home is Brooklyn. I garnered much of my success and artistic respect as one of the illest human beatboxers in the United States.
Of course when you are at the top of any field you will have neigh-sayers but the fact is the fact. I’m known to rock the mic as beatboxer and I love performing live on stage creating beats, music, anything that helps people feel and recognize that common thread of humanity.
I spend much of my time working in the community on various issues such as HIV AIDS, Education, and overall human justice. I have a musical partner I collaborate with and form a team we called Deuce oo7 which is a reference to a wizard named John Dee. We like to think of our work as wizadry in music.
Like most artists all of my work begins with a concept, a human emotion, or an idea born through imagination. When I’m writing or developing music I like to explore the work much in the same way as a dream or journey. This is why much of my songwriting is based on telling an experience through the senses…
I love working and connecting with REAL people so if you are a robot or you are not serious please don’t waste your breath communicating with me. I’d rather you be real than a robot.
It is my intention to focus on connecting with positive people who love life and music…
As far as work that I’ve done as an artist well I guess I can start with the fact that I was reviewed as “ONE OF THE BEST BEATBOXERS IN THE WORLD” (MTV) during my work on MTV Unplugged. If you have come to check me live then perhaps you would may not be so surprised by this review… My project with BBE, Smuggler, and MTV won a CLIO Award (One of the “industry’s” most prestigous awards.) it’s called “Beatbox Family.” I served as a studio beatboxer and Acting Coach.
More recently a featured guest on MTV UNPLUGGED w/ KAYAH The project spent the first three weeks of its release as one of the top sellers on the charts. In July 2007 the project with KAYAH was certified Gold.
I also feature as a beatboxer on Thailand hip hop group Thaitanium’s ’Thailand’s Most Wanted’ one of Thailand’s most popular hip hop group in recent years. Also a featured beatboxer in the upcoming documentary ‘MOVE THE CROWD’ featuring Hasan Salaam. I’m also a featured guest artist on Hasan Salaam’s upcoming album. Hasan is a very popular up and coming Emcee from New Jersey. This summer I performed along side KAYAH at the Sopot International Music Festival featuring Enrique Iglesias, Nora Jones, Gloria Gaynor and more. It was such an honor to grace the stage with these artists! The live performance was viewed by over 9 million viewers.
I also started a new group collective called Duece oo7 with producer Joe Wize this year that I mentioned earlier. Wize and I have been working together for nearly 5 years now crafting our sound. We have released Dragonfly and slew of other hot tracks on our website (coming to I Tunes Sooner than you can say the alphabet)!!! While Duece oo7 is my main musical project right now I’m always open to working new artists who are open to collaboration and have a strong positive work ethic.
As an actor I have worked off-Broadway with the likes of Vincent Pastore and Maureen Van Zandt (HBO Sopranos) and legendary character actor Richard Bright. I starred in “Burn This” playing Larry the play was directed by Emmy Winning producer Michael Rappaport, my background in classical theatre includes working alongside Michael Learned, 5 time Emmy Winner for Best Actress, in Shakespeare’s All’s Well That Ends I Well at the Sedona Shakespeare Company. I was also in Emmy winning hip-hop producer Camara Kambon’s musical “Trash” Directed by Giovanna Sardelli at the Annual Playwrights Week for the reknowned Lark Theatre Company in New York City. I am also writing for Warner Music on Bartek Krolik’s upcoming solo project and writing with Diamond selling artist Kayah on her upcoming album. I have played giant concert halls in Europe and headlined intimate venues such as the Blue Note (shout out to Anthony David who I headlined with).
I rep the 5th Element of Hip Hop to the fullest. The beatbox you hear in the music is all me (for example Survivin). My international family is comprised of some of the sickest beatboxers you will ever hear. I have a passion for theatre performance which is the flow in my blood stream.
