About CARTIERX

Portrait of CARTIERX
Crystal Cartier
I am a singer-songwriter that pays no heed to genres when I express the music in my soul. Hence, like me, my music does not know where it belongs. I thought that I was an R&B artist but since I've been here I have my doubts. I don't know where I belong or if there is even a place for me. I've been betrayed & hurt so many times. But I have to keep on trying to keep from dying, having faith that one day God's mercy will open the right door for even me.

Sorry it needs updating. But I’m working on it. (smile) I’ve made most of my album available free to my Black Planet family. The + 2 on Love Story Act One are gospel tunes “Stand By Me” & “Teach Me How to Love” are my prayers. I’ve been thru the storm and with the help of God I survived. Now I am working on a new Gospel CD because I've learned the hard way that only what we do for God will last. I would love to work with any of the gifted artists here. I have written enuf songs to be able to record several different albums for the rest of my life. I'd love to share &/or gig with YOU! Plz do not hesitate to contact me.

Hi Crystal, You are truly inspirational!!!!!!!!!! How wonderful to receive your message this morning just when I was wondering if I ought to be spending so much time with songwriting. Your "Everything has a reason-So comes our season" and, "We are nostalgic and a bit dated, but we owe it to our beautiful songs the investment and our selfs the invigorating ensuing experience," brought warmth to my heart and a smile. When I no longer could do ballet, my honey said, "Your songs are your ballet." I applaud Your ballet!!!!!!! You are a beautiful soul. Peace to you my sister!!!!!!!!!!! Cat

Hi Crystal, You a supremely inspirational!!!!!!!! Thank you for your uplifting message, "Everything has a reason, so comes our Session" and even as you say, "We are nostalgic and a bit dated, but we owe our beautiful songs the investment, and ourselves the invigorating ensuing experience." How incredible to find this message waiting for me today when I was wondering at my age, why I was spending so much time with my songwriting and if maybe I ought to just paint again. When I could no longer dance ballet, my honey said, "Your songs are your ballet". They are my dance,my expression-and as one poet to another, I applaud your ballet!!! Peace to you my sister!!!!! Cat

    ISBN 0-75960-177-1

Gods, Demons, Vampires, Witches, & Sorcery
Romance, Religion, Adventure, Politics, & History
From ancient Africa & the Caribbean to modern day USA
Dare to journey into the mind & soul of Crystal Cartier!

    The Vendetta
In Louisianna 1863, Chinyere, an African slave with mysterious powers, cannot resist taking vengeance into her own hands when tormented & murdered by her cruel Master. With her dying breath, she curses him. “You will destroy everything & everyone that you hold dear. Your soul shall never know peace & your progeny for generations to come shall be the spawn of Hell.”
But, the evil man also savagely rapes her daughter on the floor near Chinyere’s crumpled body. Chinyere’s curse backfires as the progeny of that union, her future grandchildren for generations are subsequently cursed. Finally, in Denver, CO, two illegitimate children of that lineage with supernatural powers wreck havoc upon the father that denied them. They will stop at nothing until he & all that he loves is dead. An action packed adventure that spans the globe & centuries of tragedy to weave an intricate tale of the supernatural.

    Silent Feather

From that day forward she becomes so bitterly obsessed with hate & revenge that she ultimately destroys herself. But, not before she brings much misery & death to those around her. From the grave comes gruesome justice.

    Dream Lover
A twisted tale of incestuous passion and demonic possession. An elderly Black woman enlists the aid of fellow Prayer Warriors to help save her grandchildren and exorcize their evil foes.

    Obsession
    Written by Crystal Cartier

In your heart.... Captivating your mind
Love burns true... never comprehending time
When you can’t seem to get it on the One
But, you keep trying... You are living with Obsession

Living on the Edge... Trying not to go insane
Rest my head.... Someone help me fight the pain
Can’t seem to move on... Don’t know how to let it go
    Always busy... Never done
    That’s Obsession... Don’t you know?

In your heart.... Captivating your mind
Love burns true... never comprehending time
When you can’t seem to get it on the One
But, you keep trying... You are living with Obsession

As recorded by Crystal Cartier on CD ”Love Story: Act One”
Composed as theme song for soundtrack

My Grandmother used to call me la belle grande...it means the tall pretty one Happy-dark As for your comment, Thank you. And no, I don't have much time for voting but I do a bit here and there between schedules when I don't have other things on my plate. I have friends that are artists and I know what it means to them to have support from their friends. So I help where I can. It is also a good way to meet others and spoil myself with good music, videos and so on. I see a lot of talent on this site and I think that it is an honorable priviledge to get to witness the growth that many artists experience. You have passion and it impresses me and motivates me to do something good with my life too. Thank you for stopping by.

Darlin' you are too good to be ignored and held down forever. Never give up. God is watching. As you are so fond of saying, "He will open the right doors for you when it is time." Keep on believing it. In the meantime, if you decide to stay here despite how badly you are being treated I'll check back and try to vote for you as often as I can or at least as often as they will let me.

    Hi Crystal!!

Thank you so much for your comment, and your unbridled honesty. I love that you can see that I am being exactly who I really am, which is one of my main goals in this life. Every time I open my mouth or put my fingers on the keys, I just let happen what is supposed to happen, and am blessed that it is being embraced by so many different people...

I have not listened to your stuff yet but I am going to right now!!! I just didn't want to wait to say Thank you!!... ;)

By the way, were you the one that wanted to buy the songs?

Let's definitely keep in touch, and thank you for being in, and contributing positive vibes to this world that we share. I'm so glad that this consciousness has allowed us to share a sliver of time... ;)

    Stand By Me
New Gospel Choral Arrangement & Lyrics By Crystal Cartier
(Ben E. King, Jerry Leiber, Mike Stoller)

When troubles break my heart... oohh & the whole world is at war
When there is chaos, death & destruction from sea to sea
    I may cry... I may cry...Oh but, I won’t be afraid
Just as long as you stand... stand by me

Whenever, I’m in trouble... Won’t you (Please stand by me) stand by me
Despite my falters... Lord, (Please stand by me)
    Ev’ry minute, ev’ry hour
I need your power... Stand by me (Please stand by me)

I’ve been rebuked.... I’ve been scorned
My soul is tired... My heart is worn
I’m just a sinner ...struggling to survive
You know my troubles....Be my guide
Please make me strong, kind & wise
When it’s over, Father... take me home...to the sky

Until you come for me, Lord....Won’t you stand (Please stand by me) by me...
You give me shelter & you feed me when I’m hungry
You know I’m trying, Lord... To be the best I can be
Just want to thank you, Lord... for stand... Standing by me

Ooohh .... Standing by me... Ooohh ...Standing by me...
Ooohh .... I know He’s standing by me

No money in my purse...but, He’s standing (standing by me)
For better or for worse... He’s standing by me
I want to tell the world that Christ is coming someday
It’s time to mend our ways...& learn to stop...think & pray

    (42 bars of Vamp )
Stop... Think ... & Pray... Take the time today to
Stop... Think ... & Pray ... Before it get’s too late
    Stop... Think ... & Pray ... Oohh Kum-ba-ya...
Stop... Think ... & Pray ... Oooh, come by here, my Lord
Stop... Think ... & Pray ... I just want to thank you, Jesus
Stop... Think ... & Pray ... I just want to thank you, Lord
Stop... Think ... & Pray ...Thank you for standing by me
    Stop... Think ... & Pray ... Ev’ry minute, ev’ry hour
...I need you standing by me
Stand by me... Stand by me
Stand by me... Stand by me
Ooohh .... Standing by me... Ooohh ...Standing by me...
Ooohh .... Thank you for Standing by me...

    (Closing Chorus)
No money in my purse, but, He’s standing by me ...

NO GOSPEL CHANNELS???? TIME TO ASK FOR ONE!!!

It has come to my attention that there is no Gospel Channel here. Hence, Gospel artists must try to select between the better of two evils.
I brought this subject up to management who says that there is NOT enuf Gospel Artists here to warrant a Gospel Channel... and no one beside myself has bothered to request one. So here is a shout out to all of you Gospel Artists out there be it Gospel Rap, Contemporary Gospel, Rock Gospel or Traditional Gospel, etc... Plz speak up to be heard and request an appropriate channel for your music. Stop trying to fit in where it is obvious that you do not belong. That is sooo self defeating. After all this is "OUR Stage" is it not. So let the wonderful folks that put this altogether know what's on your mind and what it is we need to excel in the proper channels.
I have been flagging in appropriate songs competing in the wrong catagories to bring to the attention of management just how badly we need at least one Gospel Channel.

Further, it amazes me to see so many hip hop & Rap artists perpetratin' as R&B artists simply because there are too many to compete against in their proper channels.

Did anyone take a Music Appreciation Class to know the difference between genres??? Depending on how a song is arranged it can be classified as any genre. But you cannot pass off a rap song with a hip hop groove as R&B or CW, etc. You are blessed to have so many channels to choose from. If there is not enuf ask MANAGEMENT TO separate female rap from male rap. You've even got Alternative hip hop. Go there instead of cluttered R&B/Soul. Hip Hop Songs are totally different from Old School R&B. We old school R&B artists are tryinvg to make a comeback considering that we've been shut out by rap, hip hop & white pop or blues artists.

If there are 600+ of you all fighting for hip hop & rap crumbs... why not broaden your mind & try some new skills to take back Soul music/R&B. If your style is mellow like Jazz, go there or try to cross over to Pop. If you are singiong the Blues then go to Blues. But try to pass of Country as R& B or Blues. Just my dime. But I hope that I didn't waste my time.

    Well said!!!!
  • Posted by CARTIERX on Nov 3, 2007 at 11:55 AM EDT
When I first came to OurStage, I was skeptical & perplexed. It bugged me to no end to see songs entered in obviously wrong catagories. I didn’t see how it could end fairly. But I must confess (as I did protest) that it all seems to have worked out fine. (mostly) LOL
Humble Earth Mother that I am, I want to see all my children happy. Petulant in the face of injustice, I usually advocate for the underdog with heart as opposed to wealth. Hence, I have always been rather eclectic about music, literature, dance & the arts, film, etc. “I strive to see the beauty in everything & everyone around me.” There is so much about Life to Love & Learn that the wise among us will remain eternal students. True Artists bare to share because we care. There are many Artists here that are ready to go forth with their ministry of music to the masses. I pray that we make it.

We’ve paid our dues & are ready to take to the sky. Sadly, too many will never be heard by those that need to hear them. I’ve lost too many such Bright Lights that simply burnt out in the dirty basement of drugs & disappointment. I’ve been cheated by Fate & betrayed by those I trusted. When Marcus Jackson, my beloved keyboard player died... a part me went with him. He’d been with Earth, Wind & Fire before Larry Dunn. He was an exceptionally gifted musician & vocalist. Then when my heart beat (drummer-vocalist) Rodney Kindred soon followed... I felt cursed. I lamented that I’d not been able to lead them to the glorious success that they so richly deserved. Then my best friend & supportive fan died despite my prayers. I such plans for us. And the brilliant studio musician & engineer that had been my Production partner in giving immortality to my 1st album moved up & away. They were all the best musicians than I’ve yet to work with in this lifetime. They understood me & loved & heard my music as I did. I thought, How can I replace them? How do I go on? And for a long time... I didn’t. Angry with God I climbed inside my shell to heal... packing away my hopes & dreams. But these End Times & Independent Thinkers like OurStage & my friends at Black Planet have inspired me to once again allow my true passions to go forth as far as God takes them & me. I am ready to work with a new band. I am ready to record new albums. I have never stopped writing & I reckon I never will.
    .
I am a romantic poet to the core. I adore weaving poetry into timeless beautiful melodies in minor chords & keys. I’ve been who & what I am for many lifetimes. And that’s just in this one. (smile) While I really am looking forward to the Next... there is yet so much this Consciousness wants to accomplish. I want my OurStage & CDBaby Families to know that after being here for a few weeks I am in awe & humbled by this diverse assembly of gifted singers, musicians & songwriters. Some songwriters are not strong singers nor musicians but the lyrics & melody of their efforts hold me to hear them out.

I don’t want to see my fellow artists as the enemy. I want to support & praise their work when moved to do so. I can do that here! How refreshing! If only there was a way to combine our resources & skills to create something beautiful & special... something bigger & better than just ourselves alone. I truly believe that finding ourselves here together is not by accident but cosmic design. Time will tell. We know not what angels may be listening. Working thru us, God has ways of opening doors that defy reason.

I enjoy the judging process. I don’t understand it but I am getting addicted to listening to all the beautiful music. So many gifted artists that deserve a break...& some modicum of financial success before we flicker out forever. Were it only in my power to empower them. But I am nobody. And so I vote. Knowing that at least here someone like even me ... struggling in the same boat beside them can reach out to say. “Well done.” And KNOW that I am not alone. Thank you OurStage for giving us all Hope & Opportunity. This process makes us all winners. It is all simply a Matter of Perspective.
    Sincerely,
    Crystal Cartier
