Calling Broadway was founded by childhood friends, David “Rades” Radeschi and Michael “C” Segreto in Montreal, Canada. The two had an instantaneous musical bond. Being a vocalist and guitarist throughout the course of his adolescent years, Rades was quickly recognized in the music scene as both a talented songwriter and a natural-born front man. Michael added his own flavour to the mix, initially starting off as a drummer and eventually venturing off as a bassist and songwriter. In the fall of 2008, Dan D’Urbano joined Calling Broadway as lead guitarist. With an extensive musical background in blues and rock, Dan brought forth his own level of creativity to the band. All members started collaborating right away. The ultimate goal was to develop a distinguished style and a unique sound. In July 2009, the boys packed their bags and headed off to Europe to perform live acoustic sets in Italy. They performed at the Canadian Embassy in Rome and at some pubs down in Sicily. After just 3 weeks of performances, the band developed a loyal fan base. With hopes of mimicking their European experience back home, the group headed back to Canada to commence the recording of their upcoming album. It was at this stage where two more high school friends joined the band: keyboardist Mike Nardozi and drummer Jonathan Granata. With Mike’s extensive background in both guitar and piano, the band was almost complete. The latest addition to the band, Jonathan Granata, was very well known in the music scene. As Calling Broadway’s new drummer, Jonathan added his contemporary style and flavor to the pop-rock group. Throughout the eight long years of numerous band experiences, hard work and dedication, the band experienced a series of life difficulties, family issues and other obstacles that will never be forgotten. “Life is a rollercoaster. Expect the unexpected and just stay positive the whole ride through”, quotes Segreto. Since Rades’ vocal changing injury, the band has never been stronger mentally and physically. In 2005, Rades suffered a stomach acid injury leaving his vocal chords utterly un-functional. This devastating and traumatic moment of his life took 2 years of recovering and speech therapy. Now with David’s renewed vocal pitch and sound, the band has all the motivation and determination to move forward with their careers. “I remember when doctors had told me that I would be lucky to even speak again. I never stopped believing that good things would happen for me. It’s not how hard you fall, but how fast you get back up”, says Rades after his successful recovery. “This is what our music is about. We are trying to send a message that the road to success is in the eyes of the one behind the wheel- as long as you’re driving strong you can go anywhere” “This is us….we are Calling Broadway.” Calling Broadway recently won the 2010 17th Annual Canadian Radio Star Regional Songwriting Competition, with their song "Right From Wrong" The band was then invited to perform their songs at the Canadian music fest in Toronto, such as "Morning sweet morning, City lights, Right from wrong, Never too late, Cynthia tell me, Breathing Goodbye." and more.
