Studio Update 3

Hi we’re done with this round of the studio, and the songs sound awesome! We’re way close to being done. “Right Right” and “The Last Song” are turning out amazing. Phil is doing an fantastic job with our songs, they are sounding incredible. In case you’re wondering, we’re recording at Sound Sanctuary Studios in ..Riverside, and Phil O’Keefe is the Engineer/Super Sound Maker. If you’re looking for a studio, that’s the place to go for the big studio sound without the price. We’ve gotta give Phil his props, he’s like a fourth member.

So Steve and I tracked all of our vocals, and all of our instruments, so all that’s left is editing/mixing and mastering. But as far as band members, our work is done. We also tracked “The Well”, “Short Song” and “Catch A Day” and decided to put it on the album, although “Down By The River” “5 Souls”, and “They Just Don’t Get It” : aren’t going to make the cut. We want the album to be great from beginning to end, and we feel those songs aren’t strong enough. You can get a free download of “They just don’t get it” on our soundclick page www.soundclick.com/souloftheriver

Also I finally wrote lyrics for what was called “We’ve Gone Crazy”. I wrote that song 3 years ago and could never get myself to write decent lyrics for it. I wrote some, and sang them in the studio and realized that I hated them. But now I have final lyrics, re-sang them, and we made the song sound less country. So we will be taking down “We’ve Gone Crazy” and replacing it with the new one, so if you want a copy, now’s the time to download it. We will put the new version up when it’s done. But we have no title, so we need you to give us the title:

Here are the lyrics:

Tomcat stares into the high grass

Song of leaves float on like a cool breeze

Soft magnolia nights

Porchswing groans and creaks the evening

Old quilt would hold their warming sweet souls

Loving afterglow

She would shine like the world now

Make the whole town

Smile and sigh lost in her eyes

And her laugh would warm your soul now

Sweet golden somehow

Neverending skies in her blue eyes

It scares him when those feelings well in

Sits and stares across the old dirt road

Rows of pecan grove

The moonlight glows on like a porchlight

Breaks apart that old pecan grove

How they stand alone

And she would light up a room now

He cant explain how

She was so fine life was so kind

It rushes in like she’s there now

The smell of her hair now

Sitting on the swing crickets would sing

Every Sunday his daughter calls in, he says he’s happy alone

But the truth is darling he really can’t let her go

And she knew he loved her with his heart and soul

Loved her right while she grew old

Always by her side

He goes back he thinks back on those old times

It seemed like such a simpler life the world he saw as a child

So what should be the title?

Studio Day 2

Things are moving in the studio. Friday night we did drum tracks and guitar amd bass tracks for “Right Right” and drums and bass for “the Well” and “Weve gone crazy”

Saturday we got everything but vocals done for “the well” and it sounds awesome!!

A while back we recorded “we’ve gone crazy” and I wrote the lyrics the day I sang them in the studio, and I was cringing when I sang them, they were terrible. Those are the ones that are on the version that’s on our myspace player etc. So it’s been a year now, and I still havent got lyrics for that song yet. I did write some in the studio a few months ago that I was happy with, but I lost them. All this month I’ve been procrastinating on writing lyrics and like a term paper, I put it off. I still don’t have lyrics for them yet. But the cool thing is, yesterday we were able to re-master it and take out some of the elements like the country sounding guitars etc. So that was awesome!

Rene and I have been talking about cutting the album down to 13 songs, and if we do, we’ll be like 95% finished with the album. So we have to sell Steve on the idea.

Today Steve and I will be mostly doing guitar and bass tracking for “Short Song” “Catch A Day” “Last Song” and maybe “Down by the River”. Well that’s it, I just wanted to guive you an update in case you were wondering. Evreything sounds phenominal I can’t wait until you all have heard it.

Studio Day 1

We’re going into the studio today. For 5 days.people keep asking if we’ll be done with the album now, and no we won’t. But we will be darn close. Tonight we will be doing drum tracks for “Right Right” “We’ve Gone Crazy” and “Going out of my head” or “the well” we haven’t really named that one yet.

I’m sick as a dog too, perfect timing.

I just wanted to give you all an update. We’ll keep you informed better than the BBC.
