She moves on was written as way to pay tribute to the unsung heroes of this most unfortunate and recent war we now find ourselves engaged in. I’ve often noticed that those who are left struggling with the consequences of decisions made by their brave soldiers who have gone off to war are the ones who endure and overcome the most. They are the ones left behind to feel the overpowering pain of loss and bear the awful burden of picking up the pieces after their loved ones have gallantly sacrificed themselves for the greater good. These are the people I want to call heroes. Because a hero doesn’t go looking for a fight. The hero is the protector, the guardian. The hero is so often portrayed as an ordinary person in extraordinary circumstances overcoming nearly impossible odds. A fair and noble assessment of our heroes for sure but sometimes however, heroes appear in places we wouldn’t normally associate with extraordinary. And sometimes, heroes do ordinary things that we do not usually associate with heroism. And sometimes we even know a hero and still we fail to recognize the true importance of their heroic deeds in our lives. I know women who have never fought in any conflict but have endured each and every extraordinary circumstance that battle and the cruelty of war can bring upon an ordinary person. To these women I would give the true medal of heroism if I could. They did not choose to be nor did they desire it to be so, but it does not make them less so. Those who have given their most prized possessions, relinquished the entirety of their life’s passion and purpose to an often thankless government are in my view the true heroes of this extraordinary time in our history. In a time when we are starving for heroes and finding them less and less, In a time where false prophets so to speak and pretending heroes abound, We have lost our way and forgotten what a hero really is. To the REAL heroes, soldiers and their mothers, I dedicate this song.
