Merging elements of Nick Cave, U2, The Smiths, The Triffids and David Bowie, Anthony Cox has a unique take on music.

Musically complex, layered, resonant and soulful would be a few of the ways to describe Anthony’s music. Original, honest and uplifting are just a few more. Not so often in this world of sound-bites, pop-fads and manufactured music sounds do you get this depth of emotion conveyed in words and music.

For his latest EP “Sorrow and Joy”, Anthony went into the studio with producer Caleb James (Yves Klein Blue, Rhubarb, Stu Larsen). The result was a thoughtful, multi-layered bag of treats. The EP covers the emotional territory of love, loss, relationships and well, everything in between. Songs range from acoustic, to rock, to anthemic; even tinges of gothic are thrown in for good measure.

On stage performances are dynamic, engaging experiences, with tight musicianship, well-crafted lyrics and Anthony’s strong resonant voice at their core. These performances are intimate melodrama’s that bite with intensity, have a sense of joy, splashes of light and brooding darkness. One leaves feeling open and vulnerable to the weight behind the tunes but ultimately feeling better for the experience.

In the recent past Anthony has performed solo acoustic shows but currently has formed the band to play new material and as a result the ensemble is galvanised about bringing a new drive and rhythmic groove to the songs. A recent finalist in the Q Song Awards (2009) in the rock category, Anthony also had 4 songs from the EP shortlisted in the top 10 of 2 categories in the awards.
