Angel interprets the authentic and original sounds of the Cumbia Tropical, the genre that continues to enrich the entire World. Angel, young vocalist and artistic director, was born in Nayarit Mexico, from a family of little resources, and raised in Los Angeles from the childhood age of 3 years old. “The people know what I am, what I have. They know that music is one of my greatest passions, but I also have my family who I would never exchange for anything”. “The truth of the human being is in its actions, its successes, in the people that are surrounded by and my family is marvelous”, assures us the second of five brothers and sisters. He doesn’t hesitate to say it nor is it private; his family is the secret of his stability. They make him a complete human being, a complete star in his profession. He is more than just a glamorous shooting star that disappears in the atmospheres, the kind he doesn’t identify with. In 1999, he begins his career as a percussionist for a Tropical Music group. His talent was discovered by an Artistic Director of another Tropical Orquestra, and grants him the opportunity to sing back up vocals for the group. Having been a hit for his personality, charm, energy, and enthusiastic dancing on stage, the musicians of the group nicknamed him “The Caribbean Hurricane”, as he was always taking everyone by storm, obtaining ovations from all audiences he came in contact with, making them applause and dance to his music. In 2001, he participates in the back up vocals for the already known artist, Vilma Diaz, original vocalist of La Sonora Dinamita of Colombia. After a couple of years, in 2003, he initializes his own group, named “La Sonora Del Caribe”. Next to his career as a soloist, he found it very difficult to find quality musicians. He dealt with many obstacles and sacrifices, but always kept positive and focused on making his dream come true. In the spring of 2004, he finally solidifies his project. With the many controversies of all the “Sonoras”, whom we all know that many exist, he was rejected and compared to the others. This had been a major obstacle for the young vocalist as he pursued his career. It is then that he makes a decision and changes the name of his group to the name he now uses to identify himself and the group with, “Angel y Su Orquesta Del Caribe”. Angel has already given him-self a name by appearing on several television programs such as, “De Todo Un Poco”, with Omar Fierro of Channel 22 in Los Angeles. “Hispanos Adelante” with Mike Rojas of LATV-Live. “Los Angeles Al Dia” and the infamous “La Fiesta Broadway” televised by Telemundo in Los Angeles. Angel gives wholehearted thanks to the gay community who have been very supportive and always branded him with unconditional support throughout his soloist career. Important appearances include, “Long Beach Gay/Lesbian Pride Festival” (2004, 2005), “West Hollywood Pride Festival” (2004, 2005), “Latin Pride Festival” (2004), “Palm Springs Pride Festival” (2005, 2006), and “Festival Calle 8” (2006) in Los Angeles. In 2005, Angel begins to record his first album. It was not an easy task and after many sacrifices and hard work, in 2008, he presents his album titled: Angel - “No Me Digas Que No”. This album offers 12 songs where Angel participated as the arranger, composer and producer. This album includes influential sounds from Colombia as are the tropical rhythms of the Cumbia. There are quite a few surprises within the album, such as “What A Feeling”, a song made popular through the film “Flashdance” in the 80’s. The song was recorded in English but with the danceable rhythms of the romantic cumbia, which was dedicated to all the Northern Americans in the USA, lovers of the Latin music. Step by step, Angel has built an artistic career by trial and error. His musical history has been developing with solidity, not too common in artists like him who started at an adolescent age. Every sacrifice, trial, failure, success, have been a lesson learned and a step up the ladder of success that he has built from his experiences which give him the security to manifest himself in such a surprisingly outstanding manner. Today, he reveals a great artist behind that frank and contagious smile of his that is followed by his humbleness, sincerity and nobleness. In actuality, Angel is preparing for a tour of scheduled performances throughout the United States. His wishes and dreams are to keep succeeding and learning as he conquers all audiences, making his way into the music world and gaining the international recognition of his music.
