Biography

American Living is a rock band from the forlorn suburbs of central New Jersey. American Living is a rock band from the forlorn suburbs of central New Jersey. While other bands are divvying themselves into subdivisions of genres, American Living decides to claim rock for New Jersey in attempt to bring back the reputation built by Bruce, The Bouncing Souls, and Saves the Day to name a few of their influences. With honest lyrical musings attempting to be in the likes of greats like Bob Seger and Springsteen, that is sung with as much soul that one can let out. This is placed into a background of music that is written to carry out the emotion of the lyrics, painting a portrait of chaos, intensity, and beauty in the listener’s mind. Not to mention you can sing their hooks for days on end. The band was just a dream in guitarist Mitch Collin’s mind. While he pursued a vagabond lifestyle out in Los Angeles, he realized to find what he was searching for he would not have to look in a specific town or city, but in a creation. Mike received a phone call one afternoon while he was in a hung-over daze on the piss stained couch in the living room of his house at college. Mitch spoke before Mike could even say hello; “Mike, let’s start a band, but actually play music we like.” Mike, also a lost soul, agreed to meet Mitch when he was supposed to be back in New Jersey for 2 weeks. Mitch and Mike met. Mike thought nothing of the visit; he was still wondering what was to come of his own life. The two sat down with their guitars, Mike with the only one he didn’t sell yet, and wrote out an idea. As the two wrote, remembrance of past formulas of song writing and dynamics rekindled a fire in the two of their heads that hadn’t been put out since that day in June of 2009. Mitch was not going to return to Los Angeles. The band formed fully by November of 2009 featuring Brandon Alboum on bass, Darren Edwards on drums, Mitch Collins on guitar, and Mike Pellegrino on vocals and guitar. They named themselves American Living, inspired by a Northstar song. Since their formation American Living has not stopped moving. They immediately released the Brooklyn Love Demos for free on their website and while still honing in on their sound, they wrote and recorded the Bridge And Tunnel EP right before the free release. (Bridge and Tunnel will be released early summer 2010) If writing a Demo and an EP within the few months of their formation isn’t enough, American Living has already started demoing for their full-length record. While doing so, they practice vigilantly on making their live show a spectacle. The four believe the concept of seeing a live band perform a show has been lost in a scene knee deep in gimmicks and pretty boys. American Living has more than just a few hello’s and song introductions, these boys walk off the stage dripping in sweat and make sure the audience worked up some perspiration on their own. American Living treats their live show like what they want it to be, their jobs. So if you’re tired of lyrics you can’t relate to, screechy, emotionless, and auto-tuned singers singing above their register, and flashy kids that can’t hold up to their recordings live… American Living drops the ruse and gives you the soundtrack to your favorite nights on the town
