Born in Hawaii, and now residing in Brooklyn, New York, you could say Alanna thrives on contrast. Hard to pin her look down, she is a tall mix of Filipino and Caucasian. Her first exposure to playing music was in fourth grade. She started playing flute and then made a big switch to trombone in junior high school. She continued to play with the marching band all throughout high school. Sousa marches are still very familiar to her. In high school, her taste in music leaned more toward the alternative side. The Cure, Elvis Costello, The Smiths, XTC, Siouxsie and the Banshees, They Might Be Giants, and Depeche Mode were her favorites. But her exposure to classical and jazz band made a big impression on her too.
Seeking change, Alanna moved to New York in 2004. Soon after, she was introduced to Andrew Wyatt (Miike Snow & Fires of Rome) and formed an electronic band called OKtoberlight. Her first published song was an 80’s inspired song called “Pop Goes My Heart” for the film, Music and Lyrics. She co-wrote it with Wyatt and Hugh Grant sang it.
Currently, Alanna can be found roaming the streets of Brooklyn and Manhattan. She is writing and recording original songs with a multiple producers and is always looking to collaborate. Although her recent EP does not have trombone, Alanna performs a solo every now and then at her live shows. “It’s so fun to watch people’s faces when I blow my horn…I have realized it’s a must on the next release.” Her self-titled EP is now available everywhere online, including iTunes and CD Baby!
