When a punk-rock bass player meets a Soul man gifted with a voice a la “Screamin’ Jay Hawkins", ex founding member of “Backstage” with Paul Personne, and a seven years band-mate with the well-known Irish band “The Commitments”, this makes Ain’t No Dub (AND).The title Tomorrow is an excellent example of that remarkable alchemy.Ain’t No Dub formed in January 2006 around Mr Ain’t (bass player, author, composer and producer), after he wrote “Bush No Freedom” in early 2005. This song became the title track of the first album “AND... In America” released on CD in November 2007, and digitally available worldwide online through more than 50 online stores, including iTunes and the likes.AND unites a group of experienced musicians from the USA, UK, Belgium, and France; each with a rich, personal musical story strongly influenced by 80’s punk and pop rock. AND’s sound, emblematically characterized by the participation of music veteran, Pete Jones (ex PIL bass player with John “Rotten” Lydon), is enriched through singers, Daniel Antoine and Franck Fowles, who bring deep Soul and Blues roots. The band blends together electronic sounds and synth sequencing with Hammond organs and Rhodes piano; saturated, bottleneck or flamenco guitars with buzuki and mandolin, cellos and violins; punk-rock drums and latin, African and Middle-Eastern percussions. At first sight surprising by its diversity, the whole is an amazingly colourful and rich music, with underlying deep harmonic arrangements, that travels effortlessly from dub to ska, to pop-rock, to jungle-punk while keeping a true sound unity and a unique band identity. Amateurs will hear accents of XTC, The Stranglers, Dub Syndicate, Bowie, Tom Waits, Alan Vega, Morcheeba and Radiohead, amongst others. But whatever your preferences, no title will leave you indifferent.
