“A leader at last,” said the doctor as Ahmen was born. Ahmen to the masses, known to the individual as Mohan, began his life as an infant nomad. From Queens, New York to Atlanta to Washington, he traveled the country seeing it with his growing eyes. His family was his rock, a mother with the strength to teach humor in the face of challenges, a father to teach dedication to one’s ambitions. Washington was his training ground in hip hop dance, and he fed deeply on the vibrations of that environment. At 12 he wrote his first rhyme and his evolution had begun. At a time when other kids were still suckling, he was getting ready to be heard. At 14, Ahmen - born a nomad of America, decided to become a mastermind of lyricism. His evolution wasn’t yet complete. It took years as a student in India to bring him the awareness and sight that America could not provide. He met the poverty and filth of its beggars, the educated brilliance of its bourgeoisie, and the decadence and pretentiousness of its few elite. He once said, “Every two streets of New Delhi hold the smells of a lifetime.” He learned. Knowledge flowed from the architecture of its people and planted seeds of vision into Ahmen’s psyche. He found the final ingredient to his beginnings in this unorganized nation of historic impressions and modern aspirations. At Penn State, Ahmen grew rapidly. He couldn’t help but undo any status quo he encountered. He built race relations unity on campus, he MC’d shows, and he inspired many with his speeches. His vast appeal is available now, on this album. This album begins with “Ahmen Is Here” and he shows that he has the words to take on the challenge of earning hip hop stardom. When we hear it we know that a change has arrived. In his corporate ascent he’s climbed the steps needed to fight the battles he mentions in “The Evil.” Although some people he’s encountered lack the faith or the right state of mind to do the same, he’s never forgotten the hope that drives him. We can hear his message of perseverance in “Hope Lives On.” Sick of the misdirection and confusion in the USA, he’s made his voice heard louder and deeper. He’s flared up his passions and spoken from his heart; we hear it in “Table for Two” as words to the woman in his life. He has the ability to shock overflowing audiences to their feet and to shed inspirational light through lyricism. Ahmen is a trailblazer in every sense and has only just begun. His destiny is twofold, as an artist with an addictive flow, and as a mastermind of deconstruction. His message deconstructs the issues facing our current generation. His artistry builds momentum to feed hungry crowds with soul-unlocking sound. We know hip hop is best when a listener hears their own life reflected. The audience has no idea what it needs, but that’s the job of our renaissance men. Ahmen is that man - he is that “leader at last.”
