Rio gained his following through freestyle battles in the streets of Chicago and performing at local Chicago venues such as the University of Chicago and local Bars. According to Blog site Hip Hop for Nerds, “(Rio) sent me this track and it was tight," citing influences that include Eminem, Jay Z, The Notorious BIG, Lil Wayne, Kid Cudi, Drake, as well as Axel Rose, Jimmy Hendrix and Freddy Mercury. Rio’s meteoric rise continues as he takes his act on the road in 2012, performing at several regional and national music festivals.
