Half a Lifetime's Time

Album: Half a Lifetime

Description

I wrote this song in memory of my friend Brian Akabane, who died suddenly and without any readily apparent cause earlier this year. Brian's time with us was all too short, but in the precious time he was given on this earth he did more, loved more, and gave more than most of us will in our entire lifetimes. From his life and his example came "Half a Lifetime's Time". I hope you find this a respectful tribute to a tremendous young man, but also a call to live your life to its very fullest.

Half a Lifetime’s Time © 2010 Jason Craig All Rights Reserved In memoriam Brian Akabane 1974 – 2010 “in coelo quies est” To everything there is a season That’s one thing I know But I can’t divine the reason One man can stay but one must go ‘Cause there’s no easy answer And I’ll never know just why Some people have to live their lives In half a lifetime’s time It was early Tuesday morning When I got the call This young man in his prime was gone With no warning signs at all And I couldn’t help but cry out Please God tell me why Some people have to live their lives In half a lifetime’s time It just isn’t fair he won’t get to share The many years we all expect to live But the good ones make the most of their temporary post Spend it giving all that they can give I can only dream what his life would be If he had 80 years to make his climb But I know he lived twice the life in half a lifetime’s time I still think of how he pushed himself And made the most of each new day And I find myself reaching out To live my own life that way And now whether I succeed or fail Won’t be because I didn’t try ‘Cause I’ve seen amazing things done in half a lifetime’s time It just isn’t fair that he won’t get to share The many years we all expect to live But the good ones make the most of their temporary post Spend it giving all that they can give I can only dream what his life would be If he had 80 years to make his climb But I know he lived twice the life in half a lifetime’s time We’re all in this race just one time and we finish just the same And it ain’t so much how fast you go but how you play the game He figured out you don’t save your best for just a certain day But it’s a chain of victories you string together on the way So Lord before I go to bed Want to thank you for this day And I hope it’s in your plan to give me Many more along my way But if my days are numbered, please give me the strength to strive So like him I’ll live twice the life In half a lifetime’s time Please help me to live twice the life In half a lifetime’s time
