Description
This song is about Pat Tillman, an extraordinary individual who left a promising career to pursue what he obviously considered a higher duty. It is my hope that Mr. Tillman's family, if they should happen to hear this composition, know just how much I admire what he did and how sorry I am for their loss.
Lyrics
He was a football star on the ten yard line when his country called. And then all thoughts of fortune and fame fled from his head. He had high ideals that he lived by and.. That's just what he did. No better served than all the rest. A soldier proud and one of our best. A brave and humble man without a doubt. By no means was he perfect, but his actions spoke quite loud. Cause when the chicken "hawks" cried, "Let's send the troups." Well Tillman said, "Send me." He was an inspiration of how a young man should try to be. But how could some, who never served, talk with such imagination. They lied, they weren't there around 7pm in April. When darkness fell. His great grand dad was at Pearl Harbour? Was something Tillman said. And then he put his life and all on the line. No gold star tents, no fans to say his name... A soldiers duty was then his aim... A sober thing and not a game. "A heavy blow to our nation," I paraphrase John McCain, "...sad news of Tillman's passing in a foreign land."
