Description

I wrote "The Lonesome Outlaw" one day at the lunch counter of the Seamans Church Institute inNewport, RI, of all places. It's really an outlaw ballad, a fictional story of a cowboy who found himself on the run. Trouble kept following, so did the Law. Peter L. Warburton

Lyrics

Well I am a lonesome outlaw all alone and on the run I left my home in Texas with my holster and my gun. I found trouble up in Arkansas with another man on the run I shot him dead in bar room there That day he was all done. Well I rode on down New Mexico to find my Juanita there I found her sittin in cowpokes' lap and I shot him his chair. Well Juanita started screamin and she slapped me in my face She called upon the sherriff there and I blew town with out a trace Well I headed back to Texas My back to the setting sun They overtook me in El Paso all alone and on the run Well they cuffed me in a bar room there They took my holster and my gun For I am just a lonesome outlaw all alone and on the run Now i'm bustin rock in Huntsville with no future left for me They locked me in this prison and they threw away the key. Well no more am I an outlaw but a convict in my cell Just serving out my lonely time inside this living breathing Hell. Written by Peter L. Warburton October 9, 2009
