Epithet

Epithet captures how easily we allow ourselves to fade into the fabric of someone else, trusting that they will incorporate those pieces of ourselves into their story. It's a revelation, an understanding in retrospect that the speaker was no more than a temporary substitute to the man in the song. At the same time, it is a revelation that while he would like to believe that the speaker meant little, her image is forever watermarked on him and she will always be the best part of his story.
