Description

This songs was written about a year and half ago, when I was 19. It's about the fears and realities young adults need to face when making their way through college, finding their first real job, and learning how to make it on their own. It was produced my Grammy winner Neil Dorfsman (Dire Straits, Bruce Springsteen), Clifford Carter (James Taylor, Art Garfunkel), and myself.

Lyrics

Now this night’s too dark for sleeping So I’m lying here awake The harvest moon will set fire to my room And free my mind from its cage And my heart it pounds like the footsteps That move up and down my road One of the two is searching for love And the other is walking home (Chorus) I will stare off into nothing Until I don’t feel so alone Oh my brother won’t return to me And I won’t make it on my own Tried to stop my wheels from turning But I fear I’ve lost control I am racing up a mountainside I’d get off but I won’t let go And like a hurricane in a vacuum Or reality in my dreams Being in a place where you don’t belong Feels like fighting a war for peace (Chorus) I will stare off into nothing Until I don’t feel so alone Oh my brother won’t return to me And I won’t make it on my own (Bridge) There were times I could have turned back Or shied away from the light Fear was not my weakness It was a sign of being alive (Chorus) I would stare off into nothing Until I didn’t feel so alone My brother won’t return to me And I won’t make it on my own Spend my days writing blank pages Use them as my maps back home There’s a certain kind of darkness You only find from being alone I won’t make it on my own
