Description

I wrote this song after reading the life-changing memoir of Dawn Schiller's life with famous 1960's porn star, John Holmes, called "The Road Through Wonderland: Surviving John Holmes." I immediately picked up my guitar and wrote this song, "Wonderland." It is about the love-hate relationship between Schiller and Holmes and it takes the listener to Wonderland Avenue, where Holmes is infamously known for his participation in the "Wonderland Murders" of 1981. Lyrics

Let me take you to a place called Wonderland, where the moon is always full and the nights are long and the eyes are swollen. It's where you used to be, where you used to sit me down, rock me down to sleep. I never thought I'd hear those sounds you made to bury me awake. But that was yesterday, yesterday is your's now. I'll take today and take for you the final bow you lost with the lines you crossed. That was my man. That was my man with the briefcase. That was my man. My whole world and my biggest mistake. But I was 17. I was only 17 when the tide in his eyes pulled me in. But it was dead sea. He turned into the dead sea, and he never taught me to swim. Chorus: So here I go again back down the road to Wonderland to understand what it was you saw when standing there. My love in the air. And then I'll run away faster than I've done before, with the lies you gave, pockets full of every word you faked and every heart you still break. But that was Wonderland, that wasn't my whole life. But my one-up man seems to be the only time I'll know, so the story must go. Let me tell you about the girl from Wonderland. She was born to gaze the stars but the fireflies can't kiss her goodnight now. She had everything, never would have let go. But his sorry eyes made her wanna stay until slowly she could only see with her eyes closed. But that broken man, crumbling, breathing fire, wasn't who she met that day in July. So to you we surrender. That was my man. That was my man with the briefcase. That was my man. My whole world and my biggest mistake. I was the swinging door. I was just the swinging door that he used when his gaming caught fire. It's what you get for. This is what you get for betraying me blind. (Chorus) Who am I now? Who am I now without you? IIf love can read my mind, why can't you? Who would I be? Who would I have been without you? So you saw me the first day, didn't see me the last. I know you loved me the first day, I didn't know you the last. You've collected all my dues. There's no use picking up the broken glass. (Chorus) So the story must be told.
