Description

I wrote this song on a trip with my family after Nashville's Summer Lights Festival years ago. It was cold and rainy here in music city, and so pretty in Bardstown, Kentucky. And the weather down here suited my mood. But after that trip I recognized Nashville is the only home I ever want.

Lyrics

Daddy get behind the wheel, I've been wandering through these lovely fields too long. I've lost my woes in country life, now its time to go back where I belong. The sunset glow it welcomes us; my boot heels, they ache to be homebound, The roaring of the engine and the wind it makes that lovely moaning sound. Twilight bids us welcome, and it won't be long til I am touching ground, when I'm homebound. Clouds are disappearing; they reveal a vision deep and dark and blue. And Mother, if you listen, you can hear those homey voices calling you. The white lines lead us onward as the blacktop carries us along the way; A journey through the country and I must admit it has been a lovely day. Twilight bids us welcome, and it won't be long until I am touching ground, when I'm homebound. I remember days of youth it's funny how the time sure slips away. And I'll miss these lovely moments so much more than I can ever try and say. Though memory in later years may fail me I will always treasure you. And for now I know you'll be with me where e'er I go whatever I may do. The future bids a welcome to me I know I will always be homebound.
