When I Think of Anne

Album: Demos
By:
Anthony Sandi

Duration

7:45

Genres

Acoustic

Description

Recorded on a Tascam 4 track(remember those?) as a scratch demo. I'm playing Harvey Leach's masterpiece of a guitar, the "Wolf" 12 string. I'm tuned down about 2 steps, but this amazing twelve can handle it beautifully. This song is an attempt at a Irish type folk song(young love, wanderlust, tragedy, albiet void of alcohol reference)and as folks gliby remind me, is longer than "Hey Jude". But trust me, it's a sweet story if you sit through it

Lyrics

Chorus 1: When I Think of my sweet Anne The clouds begin to pour The falling water typifies The red curls I adore Rainbowed skies of latter rain Nary melts the pain I reflect a sodden man When I Think of Anne We danced upon the island's floor of the meadow green She turned to me and with sweet lips Smiled "Now I am seventeen." "Spring has come, the schoolyard chums that were you and me, was the gift of Providence, Let's be a family." Yet I had dreams of the isle no more Just of a great ship's beam The sailor's lure just had no cure Within her pools of green The smell of salt brought to a halt The love given so free "You are a child, I a man, I cannot take your hand." Repeat Chorus 1 The life she planned, the heights to soar Became a wisp of steam She turned from me and faced the sea That was now her rivalry The deed was done what was to come She did not want to be Without a word she did run Beneath the setting sun Chorus 2: When I Think of my sweet Anne The skies begin to leak The falling water typifies The tears on freckled cheeks Rhyme and reason of the sane Would never melt her pain I reflect a foolish man When I Think of Anne The years have passed and old age roars My youth loses its sheen It turns to me with accusing lips This is the sum of dreams A life lonely which thinks only Of the manly me Is full of lack, I must go back To my home by the sea Repeat Chorus 2 I grieve upon the island's floor And embrace its meadow green Near the stone with angel's lips She died only nineteen Her heart did pause, this was the cause But I knew truthfully It was broken when I had spoken Those words so foolishly When I Think of my sweet Anne The clouds begin to leak The falling water typifies The tears on freckled cheeks Rhyme and reason of the sane Would never melt her pain I reflect a foolish man When I Think of Anne I am but an empty man Without the love of Anne
