Stephen was born with Morquio Syndrome, has a tracheotomy, he uses a respirator and he is parallized his left side of his body due to a stroke in 2001. Stephen is an inspiration for many people, even he has not a great voice, he puts his heart in each word he sings. Thanks to Univision, Stephen met Juanes at Madison Square Garden on April 8, 2011, that day Stephen gave Juanes a song (composed by Stephen), titled "Feliz Aniversario" .
