I Crossed The Tracks

When I was ten, my family moved to Shelby, MS. We had a black nanny who lived "across the tracks." I would sneak over to see her and local plantation workers would be sitting on the porch playing the Blues. They taught me how to sing: "Girl, just look out there at that road and pretend your dog just got run over by a car. Then you'll be singing the Blues."
