This song was written the day after a breakup with a girl I'd been with for 2 yrs. It was my first "long term" relationship and we were young and naive and it was just never going to work out. This is a song about finally coming to that realization and saying goodbye in a sincere and honest way...no ill will...just spreading my wings.
