I think this song was best described as a plea to woman with an eye towards God, whether or not He would like to intervene in the failing relationship. For me, its a very spiritual song, drawing upon my Catholic roots. It's also an acceptance of our unimportance in the grand sceme of things. Everything happens for a reason, including the things we would like to think we control, like relationships...
