Now there’s no keyholes to peek through anymore. How’s a kid to find out What goes on behind that door? I guess they’ll always find a way To see the things that they can’t say But it won’t be through the keyhole any more. Years ago when we was young’ns And we were feeling kind of sly We’d kneel behind our parents’ door And gently press our eye Against a little opening Just below the ol’ door knob And we’d see some things We didn’t know That we hadn’t seen before, But there ain’t no keyholes To peek through any more. One time my brother Jake and I Saw a weird show through that door. The sheets were flappin’ up and down The bed was rockin’ on the floor. Papa grunted, Momma yelled But not like in a fight. They never found out that we saw Them do the ol’ humpty dance that night. Now there’s no keyholes to peek through anymore. How’s a kid to find out What goes on behind that door? If the adults put it in the hole The view it then would hide. But it never stopped the sound From being heard when we were still And listened to what was goin’ on Until we’d had our fill. Today there’s keys but little slots Into which they go, You can’t see a darned thing through them So kids learn the things they know In other ways than we did When keyholes were the style.
