The song is based on a true story. A pilot I ran into at the local tavern told me a story about his attempt to scale the Andes Mountains. They did not want to hike in and set up a base camp, so they decided to parachute in. They dropped there food and gear first, then themselve, then the lamas. The lamas where not very good at steering so sadly they crashed into the rocks. The pilot and his friends paid a price also, with no pack animals they barely hiked out with there lives.
