Lara Oshon is a singer, songwriter, painter and classically trained pianist originally from the Atlanta area. She discovered her visual and vocal gifts after moving to Los Angeles for graduate school, and her naturally skilled voice ranges from powerful and soulful to sweet and tender. Currently living in Athens, GA, she has performed and recorded with numerous top local musicians, opened for Dar Williams on her album release tour, placed in the Top 25 of the Lilith Fair Atlanta competition, and was selected by Eddie Owen to participate in the well-known Songwriters Shootout at Eddie’s Attic in Atlanta. Pioneering her own genre of lyrically soulful music, her style includes folk-based pop, soul, indie rock, and bluesy funk.
In 2005 she recorded a 10 track demo, 'Emerging', which established her as a warm, inspiring singer/pianist and talented lyricist. This was followed in 2008 by 'Dive In', a full band album showcasing her gifts at musical arrangement and strong melody. After living in Los Angeles for years, Oshon returned to the green nurturance of her native Georgia. With the support of her fans and a successful Kickstarter campaign, she recorded 'Born to Shine' at Studio 1093 in Athens with a small live audience. A deeply personal album, it weaves stories of coming back home to the South after her years in California.
With the release of her fourth album, 'I Will Sing: Live at Sangha', Lara Oshon is launching a new groove. Paring down the ensemble to a duo with drummer Louis Romanos, the new arrangements are intentionally spare, yet still lush and full of warmth. Known for her evocative, soulful performances, the additional bed of drum beats enhances the raw strength and primal power of her sound. 'I Will Sing' was recorded live inside an old church turned yoga studio, and the acoustics are stellar. “In a live show, there's a heightened sense of connection between singer and audience. The intimacy, authenticity and feeling of community are integral to the album.”
Oshon is excited to continue experimenting in new directions. Her career in music has been a surprise, and she is ready to surprise herself again. “I never intended to become a performer, but the creative force just took me over. I sing because my soul demands it."
