The MTV Video Music Awards is the hottest night in music. This year Comcast and MTV2 recognized local artists with a VMA of their own – The Best Breakout Boston Artist Award!
Over 150 artists entered and MTV selected the three nominees below from your top 20 ranked artists to open the VMA concert at Six Flags New England on August 27th and battle it out in front of an expert panel of judges including headlining acts All Time Low, The White Tie Affair and MTV’s Director of Music & Talent, Tuma Basa.
Gentlemen Hall was named this year’s Best Breakout Boston Artist and was featured on MTV during the live VMAs locally on Comcast and will be showcased nationally on MTV2!
The Nominees

Featured Artist: Gentlemen Hall
Gentlemen Hall brings audiences to the dance floor with their deep bass lines, boy band harmonies, sass-infused swagger and all around funky sound. But it’s their combination of Jamiroquai-esque rhythms and Marvin-Gaye-vibing sexual tension that sets them above Beantown’s bests.

Featured Artist: Air Traffic Controller
Air Traffic Controller is the moniker of Dave Munro, a charming storyteller, lyricist and easy melody-maker. A former Navy Air Traffic Controller, Munro recruited his brother (and drummer) Rich to first build a recording studio then convince Boston royalty Bleu and Ducky Carlisle to serve as producers. The result is a defining and hope-filled debut LP.

Featured Artist: Twin Berlin
Twin Berlins rock a sound reminiscent of The Strokes and The Libertines. While the quartet may be young, they’re savvy enough to borrow from the history books as written by icons like The Kinks and the Ramones when it comes to songwriting, instrumentation and style. Time will tell if they will follow in the footsteps of their idols.
