PLUG and OurStage join the Grameen Foundation to defeat global poverty one community at a time by combining the revolutionary concept of microfinance with a shared desire for social/economic justice.

With tiny loans, savings and technology, the Grameen Foundation helps the poorest of the poor, mostly women, start self-sustaining businesses to escape poverty. The Foundation’s global network of microfinance partners reaches over 3.6 million families in 25 countries.

"Dieula was accustomed to going days without food...

Dieula was often ill and couldn’t work. She ran a snack business, which had almost no capital. But with microfinance services from Grameen Foundation partner Esperanza International, Dieula took out a loan of 2,000 pesos ($68) to expand her business. In just six months, her capital increased to 2,500 pesos. Her business now brings in 40-50 pesos per day, and Dieula has plenty to eat. Her children are in school and she can afford treatment for her struggle with sickle cell anemia. Dieula has taken a second loan to fund further expansion."

Approximately one in five Moroccans — 6 Million people — live in poverty; the majority of the female population is illiterate.
The nations in Sub-Saharan Africa span an astounding cultural, linguistic, and natural diversity. Yet 300 million people live on less than $1 a day.
A loan of $200 is usually repaid in 6-12 months, and can be reloaned, creating continual reinvestment.
