"Dieula was accustomed to going days without food... Dieula was often ill and couldn’t work. She ran a snack business, which had almost no capital. But with microfinance services from Grameen Foundation partner Esperanza International, Dieula took out a loan of 2,000 pesos ($68) to expand her business. In just six months, her capital increased to 2,500 pesos. Her business now brings in 40-50 pesos per day, and Dieula has plenty to eat. Her children are in school and she can afford treatment for her struggle with sickle cell anemia. Dieula has taken a second loan to fund further expansion." |
