The funkerific experience was formed by dom(bass) and ryan(drums) to satisfy our need to jam when an opos practice failed to come together. when we first started out we mainly played along to lars frederiksen or red hot chili pepper cds for songs that we might learn for opos. soon enough dom started writing simple, catchy, and repetitive bass lines that were easy for the both of us to digress from and jump in and out of different rhythms while playing. one of these bass lines would become paul's song. we showed this song to mike and a couple of times he tried to jump in on guitar but it never really seemed to work. so whenever mike was setting up or couldnt make a practice we would just jam to paul's song or another simple bass line that dom made up. after the summer and opos' gig practice slowed down but me and dom still wanted to jam funkerific practices became more frequent. about a couple weeks after recording the first opos song we got our producer and "homeslice" goodwill a.k.a. the man to come over and record paul's song. 1 recording sesson and a couple of hours later we had our first e.p. with 5 songs including the soon to be classic opening riff of paul's song thanks to the wah wah effect on doms line 6 amp. the whole thing was made in about 3 or 4 hours on new years eve. unfortunately, tragedy occured at our next recording session when funkerific friends eric and george trigged a bizarre pepper spray accident which caused the evacuation of doms house and the loss of the rest of our recording time for the day. but were making that time up so far weve recorded 2 of the 5 songs we have left and were writing more.
